Lisa Shan 28, from Beijing, China, chose 91ý for the freedom to explore interests from the arts to the sciences. The studio arts major is now using wearable art to explore themes of home, distance, and connection.

Men basketball Head Coach Joe Burke became the program all-time wins leader with his 215th career victory and owns a .551 career winning percentage, the highest since 91ý began varsity competition in 1982.

Summer student employment  

The process for submitting requisitions for summer employment is now open. All summer hire requests are subject to approval by each division vice president. Requests for summer workers must be approved before any work begins. Positions will be posted on March 2. All positions that need to be posted/advertised should be submitted by that date. Human Resources manages all hiring needs during the summer months, including for 91ý students; more information can be found online.

Black Men Speaking: A Conversation with Eight African American Writers 

All are invited to join distinguished African American writers Ethelbert Miller, Clifford Thompson, Jerald Walker, Mark Sanders, Gerald Early, David Nicholson, John McCluskey Jr., and Charles Johnson on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 45 p.m. via Zoom for a conversation about American history, literature, politics, and culture. Assistant Professor Tammy Owens will moderate. A registration link will be forthcoming.

President open office hours 

President Conner invites all faculty, staff, and students to his open office hour from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12. Email the Office of the President to reserve a 10-minute, in-person meeting.

Modernity and Jewish Life at the End of the Ottoman Empire: A Conversation 

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the Wyckoff Center, Murat Yildiz, associate professor of history, will join guest scholar Dina Danon, associate professor of Judaic studies and history at Binghamton University, for a conversation on modernity, class, and Jewish life in urban centers of the late Ottoman Empire. This event is presented by the Jacob Perlow Series and Office of Special Programs.

Valentine's Day chocolate-covered strawberry sale 

Chocolate-covered strawberries will be available through a pre-order sale, with orders due by Friday, Feb. 6. Half-dozen boxes cost $10. Orders may be picked up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Spa. A limited number of boxes will also be available for purchase the day of.

2026 Juried Student Exhibition 

The 2026 opens Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Schick Gallery, with a reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The exhibition features more than 200 entries across all media, including painting, drawing, animation, fibers, ceramics, jewelry, and metals. The 2026 juror is artist and writer Mary Simpson. The exhibition is on view through March 3.

Geothermal awareness survey 

Please take one to two minutes to complete this , which aims to better understand the 91ý community awareness of geothermal systems on campus. Responses will be used to inform sustainability projects and communications. Participants may enter a raffle for one of several $15 Uncommon Grounds gift cards.

ČCamp Northwoods registration

Online registration for Camp Northwoods, 91ý summer day camp for children, opens for employees at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5. 91ý community members receive priority and will be sent an email with specific instructions that morning.

AI lecture by Meredith Broussard

Professor Meredith Broussard of New York University will deliver a lecture titled at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in Gannett Auditorium. Light refreshments will be served beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the lobby.

Tang Spring Opening Celebration 

On Saturday, Feb. 14, the Tang Teaching Museum will host its . At 5 p.m., artist Kathy Butterly will be in conversation with Dayton Director Ian Berry, followed by a reception celebrating all the exhibitions including Kathy Butterly: Assume Yes and the student-curated show Designing Power: The Black Panther Party.

Ensemble Connect 2026 spring residency

Humanistic Inquiry Symposium 

The 2026 Humanistic Inquiry Symposium will take place March 20-21 at the Tang and is open to all. This year theme, Space/Place, invites us to consider how environments shape stories, identities, and experiences, and continues exploration of the spacetime continuum began with last year focus on time.
