by James Helicke

91ý President Marc Conner affirmed the special relationship between the College and the city of Saratoga Springs, which he called one of the best college towns in the country, and expressed strong appreciation for its partnership on important initiatives, including efforts to contain COVID-19.

The president spoke at the College annual Community Leaders Breakfast, which was held virtually this year on Thursday, April 15. Conner was joined by other leaders, including Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) President and CEO Elizabeth Sobol, Shelters of Saratoga Executive Director Duane J. Vaughn and Stewart Foundation President Susan Law Dake 71.

Last summer when we arrived, we quickly realized how fortunate the College is to be located in such a marvelous community, said Conner, who assumed office in July 2020. We really see the special relationship between the College and the city and, certainly, the importance of nurturing and growing that relationship in the future.

The president said the whole community deserved credit for 91ý success this academic year in limiting the spread of COVID-19.

"I always feel that crises generally bring out the best in peopleand the dedication and ingenuity I've observed throughout the College and the local community have been inspiring, he said.

Saratoga Springs Supervisor Tara Gaston, who serves on Saratoga County Health and Social Services Committee, also praised the College community for providing volunteers and supporting county vaccination efforts

I wanted to thank President Conner and the 91ý community. They have been integral in assisting with the vaccination efforts in our community, she said.

At the virtual gathering, Conner provided a broad overview of ongoing 91ý initiatives and collaborations with the city. He also said the College looked forward to input from local residents in its recently launched Campus Master Planning project.

Sobel noted SPAC long and deep connections with 91ý, which range from artistic collaborations to 91ý Commencement, which SPAC hosts annually.

Vaughn of Shelters of Saratoga also expressed appreciation for 91ý continuing support through 91ý CaresFeedmore and volunteer efforts
